When Fear Starts Writing the Rules of Your Life

In the past few weeks I have worked with several clients who arrived carrying different fears and phobias. Flying, driving, illness, darkness, and many more. Almost every conversation begins with the same feeling. A quiet sense of embarrassment that this fear has shaped their choices, held them back, or made life smaller than they wanted it to be.

One woman told me she hated flying. She laughed as she said it and added that it did not matter because she had a dog. When I gently reflected that she had chosen the dog so she could stay at home and avoid flying altogether, she looked surprised. Then she laughed again and said she realised I was absolutely right. Her fear had quietly rewritten the rules of her life without her noticing.

The Board Game of Phobias

Phobias behave like a board game you have played for so long that you no longer remember the original rules. You only remember the ones you created to feel safe or the ones other people taught you while they played alongside you.

So you keep circling the board.

Sometimes you land on something easy. Sometimes life hands you a card that feels manageable. Sometimes you land on a space that feels too much, too heavy, too demanding.

Fear becomes the player that moves your piece for you.

A favourite quotation that captures this idea is:

“Fear is a story we tell ourselves. Change the story and the fear loses its place.” (Anonymous)

What Happens When You Work With Me

Whether we meet online or in person, we talk about what is happening now. I do not take you through a deep psychological exploration of childhood experiences. I simply need to understand how the fear shows up, how it affects your life, and what you want your future to feel like once the fear is no longer in charge.

This future focused approach is the foundation of my work. Together we imagine the version of you who is free. The version who opens doors instead of closing them. The version who chooses rather than avoids. The version who moves rather than freezes.

If you want to explore how this works, you can learn more about phobia patterns or explore hypnosis.

Real Shifts Clients Have Experienced

Recent clients have:

  • Driven on a motorway for the first time in years and realised they have control of how long they drive on it for
  • Slept in complete darkness after years of needing a light
  • Approached cancer treatment with a calmer and steadier mindset
  • Released fears that shaped their routines for decades

These changes happen because the unconscious mind is ready to update old stories once you give it permission.

Fear Holds On Until You Let Go

I heard a quotation on the radio describing addiction as a parasite that holds on because it needs you to survive. Phobias behave in a similar way. They feed on avoidance and old rules. They cling to the belief that you are not safe.

When you release the fear, the fear loses its grip.

My sessions are designed to help you let go completely, not simply manage the edges.

If you want to understand how your mind holds onto fear, explore unconscious patterns.

📝 Journal Prompts to Explore Your Own Patterns

  • Your Fear Story What story do I tell myself about this fear and when did that story begin
  • Your Rules Which rules am I following that no longer match who I am now
  • Your Future If my mind rewrote one pattern today, what would I want it to choose instead

Imagine Life With You in Control

Imagine waking up and realising that you make the decisions, not your fear. Imagine choosing the flight, the motorway, the treatment, the darkness, the moment, simply because you want to. Imagine living by your own rules again.

Seeing me may be easier than buying a dog.

If you are ready to explore that version of yourself, message me and we will begin your transformation.
