What Are Fears and Phobias?

Fears and phobias are more common than you might think, and they don’t always make logical sense.

You might know your fear is irrational, yet your body still reacts with anxiety, panic or the urge to avoid it completely. This happens because your unconscious mind is trying to protect you, even when the response is no longer helpful.

Phobias can show up in many ways – from fear of flying, dentists or needles, to public speaking, driving or certain environments. They can feel overwhelming or even embarrassing, but they are changeable.

With the right approach, it’s possible to retrain your mind and calm your nervous system, so you feel more in control again.
